Choices for Genital Wart treatment

Genital wart is a type of STD that has been a growing concern just like herpes and AIDS. A virus named human papillomavirus sometimes known as HPV causes these warts. Treatment is not going to be easy since the virus lives within the deeper layer of the skin tissue.

There have been reports that people who have been infected with warts have reached to half a million each year in the United States. Of course, this just refers to those who have come to the open but there are those who still keep their disease as a secret.

Even visits to the doctors for treatment of the warts has also increased almost ten times due to the growing awareness of the people for issues on sexual health.

If you have seen some sort of cauliflower growing near or around your genitals then you need to see a gynecologist, dermatologist or urologist. Since they are the experts that can tell whether you have genital warts or a different disease that can either be ulcer or cancer.

People who have this kind of disease can select which treatment to use. However, there is no assurance of 100% cure. Most likely these treatments have side effects and can be very costly.

There are three types of treatments available for genital warts. First, prescription topical preparation that destroys the wart tissue. Second, surgical methods that will remove the wart tissue. Third, biological-based approaches which target the HPV that causes the underlying condition.

Each of these treatments should be applied to each and every wart and should not be taken as a group. Those warts that are visible to the naked eye can be removed through the use of heat, cold, laser or scalpel. Using one of these techniques is uncomfortable and does not give total result. Some warts will reappear since the virus (HPV) is still present underneath the cells.

Most often cases of genital warts are difficult to cure since the immune system of a person is suppressed. If one treatment does the job and help in removing or eliminating the warts, then there is a big chance to be cured.

Even if these genital warts are not that life threatening they can cause anxiety and mental anguish to the person who is infected by such disease. To prevent yourself to be infected with genital warts, do practice safe sex.
